QUILT STATION by Margaret Mew

I have spent many years studying antique fabrics and quilts from the 19th century and earlier and I know that the colours to be found in these fabrics were often very bright and full of life. These colours are not always associated with reproduction fabrics but I love to expose my students to the joys of these colours; to try and change the often-heard perception that reproduction fabrics are dull.

Author & Teacher

In 2017 my first book was published by Quiltmania Publications. Titled ‘Quilts from the Colonies’, it has patterns for 17 reproductions quilts. All have that patina of age that I love so much. Margaret's second book, was also published by QuiltMania. Margaret is also a beloved quilt teacher who earns high marks from her students!

Margaret Mew is a highly regarded Australian quilt designer, traveling teacher, and author. She is celebrated for her expert reproduction of antique quilts, a passion that shines through in her hand piecing and appliqué techniques. Originally from New Zealand, Margaret has made Australia her home for years, drawing inspiration from its unique quilting history and its deep-rooted connection to English quilting traditions.

Margaret has authored two books with Quiltmania, both of which are now out of print, but remain a testament to her expertise. Her first book, Quilts From the Colonies, features her reproductions of 19th-century quilts from America's original thirteen colonies, as well as her native Australia. In her follow-up book, Quilts from La Gare, Margaret gets more personal, sharing her love of fabrics and offering valuable advice on how to select and curate them for your own projects. The book, named after the abandoned train station she converted into her home, also provides valuable storage tips and includes a variety of projects, from Medallion quilts to a tea cozy.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced quilter, Margaret's patterns will inspire you to create a beautiful quilt you'll cherish forever. Her designs offer a timeless charm and a wonderful challenge, making them perfect for those looking to hone their hand piecing and appliqué skills.
