Renée began working on this quilt at a time in her life when she wanted to advance her patchwork skills. She decided that making a different block per month would be very motivational. Soon, however, she started feeling that she needed to design more personal blocks. Her photo collection became a source of inspiration for personalizing this project – antique tableware from museum collections and Japanese crests, for example.
It wasn’t until later that Renée’s idea for the centerpiece became clear. She was visiting the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and saw a rose and white enameled porcelain service that was decorated with circular hourglasses. That was the missing spark to this quilt! The border is designed with the same stars from the centerpiece but topsy-turvy.
The quilting was beautifully done by Marie-Odile Morgand of MOM Quilts.
Chiffon Porcelain was prized Honorable Mention by the International Quilt Association at the 2018 Houston Quilt Festival.
