After the worldwide success of her books, Treasures of Holland and two exquisite Promenades on which this prolific quilter and fabric designer, Petra Prins, has invited us, we are overjoyed to announce the launch of her newest book!
Petra’s passion for her Dutch heritage is imbued in every fiber of the fabric collections she designs, as well as in her quilts. Teaming up with her longtime friend and quilter, Nel Kooiman, Petra has devoted her craft to the art of antique reproduction fabrics.
Her new book with Quiltmania is a collection of 18 warm and refined quilts using fabrics from her Dutch Heritage collection and is comprised of Petra’s favorite designs. Embracing her heritage, Petra has created true beauty with some of the very essentials: Dutch hexagon patterns, diamonds, hourglasses, windmills, 9-patches, flying geese, log cabins, tumbling blocks…and more! All of your favorite techniques are included, from English Paper Piecing, Broderie Perse, appliqué and fussy cutting. And there is no shortage of sumptuous reproduction fabrics to choose from – Delft blues and Chintz are just some of the choices for your Medallions! For those of you who are unfamiliar with traditional Dutch quilts, Petra has included a chapter to walk you through specific techniques, including a “Made in the Netherlands” finish! This book is a journey back in time for your creative hands and eyes to relish for years to come!
Petra Prins has been designing and making quilts for over 30 years. Truly passionate about her Dutch fabric heritage, she has worked extensively to learn about, and bring her country’s textile history to the forefront. She is the author of three books published with Quiltmania: Treasures of Holland, Promenade in a Dutch Garden and Promenade in a Dutch Castle. Petra owns two quilt shops: Petra Prins in Zutphen and Australian Atmosphere in Amsterdam. She also co-owns a third shop, Den Haan & Wagenmakers, with her friend Nel Kooiman. Petra’s Dutch Heritage fabric collections are produced with ANBO fabrics.
